The role of a social media consultant is probably not what you think it is!
Contrary to popular belief, social media consultants are not just people who run social media campaigns.
It’s tempting to compare your followers, likes, views, and “engagement” to your competitors and believe your social media strategy is a failure.
But your true goal isn’t being a great success on social media. Your goal is to sell a product, create an opportunity, or further a cause.
A social media consultant should always be looking at how best to accomplish a real business goal, not just “be good” at posting content.
There’s an entire industry of people selling “social media services” that promise the world. These “experts” will try to sell you on vanity metrics.
They want you to believe more social media followers, more likes, and more views are the be-all and end-all. However, if your goal is to sell more widgets, then it’s not your social media engagement that matters — it’s how many widgets you sell.
You can triple your Instagram following, but if those followers don’t buy your widget, then who cares?
That is not social media success, but too often it’s presented like it is by social media consultants who don’t actually know how to use social media to drive truly meaningful results.
It’s not hard to post on social media platforms. What’s hard is to develop a social media strategy that uses that content to accomplish actual business growth (leads and sales).
A great social media strategist knows that a clear strategy tailored to business goals is the only way forward
It’s not enough to just get more likes, comments, and shares.
Your social media consultant should be focused on helping you turn those interactions into conversions that grow your business.
So make sure you hire a social media strategist who can not only tell you how to attract attention for your creation, but also has a plan to convert that attention into action.
In order to get the most out of your social media consultant, you need someone who understands how to use social media as part of an overall marketing strategy.
This means they should understand how your industry works and what your customers are looking for.
They will also develop a strategy tailored specifically for your company, so you can get the very most out of social media.
Social media is an incredible tool that can help you reach more people however if your product/service doesn’t provide clear value, the best social media consultant in the world won’t be able to help.
Social media’s not a shortcut to success — it is however a powerful way to amplify messages that deserve amplification.
So if you hire a social media expert to help you with your business, you better make sure that the content strategy you give them is worth it.
